1. The use of a
sloping brush
|
|
This is the basic ground form,
which is based on a simple incline.
It's mostly used for hills or even to give the terrain some
different heights.
You only must be familiar with vertex manipulation, especially
with the |
'drag edges' function (key: N). One way to create a incline is,
to make a rectangle and manipulate it with the 'drag edges function
till it looks fine.
Important:
Combine your sloping brushes with other ground styles to make it
more realistic.
2. The use of a
pyramid-shaped brush
 |
Another basic form of a good looking
ground, is based on a flat pyramid.
You can find this kind of ground brushes often next to walls,
because they make the transfer from the ground (a brush without
any height differences) to |
a wall (a vertical brush) more realistic. You can create such a
brush by using the drag edges function. If it doesn't fit at once
you can use the drag vertices function (key: 'V') to get it in a
good position.
Important:
This ground style looks best in combination with vertical brushes
and inclines.
3. The use of a
cylindrical polygon
|
|
Now we come to a ground style used
to change the height of the terrain.
This simple 'rock-stairs' are based on a cylindrical polygon
brush sometimes used as a additional way to get to a higher
position in a level. If you want to |
use it simply create some 7 or 9 sided brushes and put them on top
of each other. No make them more realistic play around with some
vertex manipulation techniques.
Important:
Since this ground style looks more like some walkable rock you should
give it a rock texture. Also combine it with some inclines to give
it a more interesting look.
4. The use of a
triangular brush -
tutorial
|
|
At last we come to the most complex
and best looking ground style based on triangular brushes.
This style is the best solution for ground of small valleys
or smaller outdoor regions. With it you can create a realistic
looking and non flat |
ground like shown in the picture. This technique is very similar
to the way GenSurf works, the only difference is that you can use
triangular brushes of different sizes and GenSurf only use one of
the same size. If you want know more about it visit this
tutorial.
Important:
Since this is a very complex ground style with a lot of brushes,
you only should use it in small regions to beware a crash of the
r_speed.
